Welcome to Purplelionfish!

The online world of Laura Onyshchenko, Berkshire based wildlife artist and member of MIWAS.

This website is about my artwork: originals, giclée prints & commissions

My main subject matter is wild animals such as giraffes, elephants, zebras and snow leopards but I am also happy to undertake drawing or painting commissions of pets.

I have been short-listed for David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Artist of the Year 2016 with my painting "Singing Fish". The international art exhibition is at the Mall Galleries, London from 28 June- 2 July 2016. The "Singing Fish" were encountered near Marsa Alam, Egypt, during a very memorable last dive of the holiday. I swam around a coral outcrop and was delighted to be greeted by a huge shoal of striped mackerel filling the view. The fish were enthusiastically feeding and they looked like they had just burst into a group song!

My turtle painting "A Breath of Air" was shortlisted for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) Wildlife Artist of the Year 2013 (WAY 2013). It was exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London from 4th-8th June 2013. Sadly, the hawksbill turtle, like all turtle species is endangered and I felt very privileged to have the subject of my painting surface in front of me whilst snorkeling in the Maldives.

My armadillo painting "Homemakers: Millie & Mike" was shortlisted for David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation Wildlife Artist of the Year 2010 (WAY2010) and was exhibited and for sale at the Mall Galleries, London from 24th - 29th May 2010 (50% of proceeds go towards the conservation work of DSWF).
